A proposal to build a gallery to commemorate kung fu hero Bruce Lee was passed yesterday after an about-turn by Democrats.
The Bruce Lee Memorial Gallery will be set up at the Hong Kong Film Archive, due to open in Sai Wan Ho by the middle of next year.
Provisional Urban Councillor Lam Man-fai, who moved the motion - which was passed by 33 votes to one - welcomed the fact that his proposal had triggered controversy.
'The more the debate, the clearer the truth. It now proves we have won support from the public,' he told a council meeting.
Mr Lam made the same plea in February but was voted down because of Democrats' opposition. They were against Lee being singled out and urged that the gallery should instead commemorate kung fu films.
Some councillors attacked Lee's personal life, saying the gallery would set a bad example for youth.
