More than 2,000 Australian troops are standing by to fly or sail to East Timor at a moment's notice. But D-day continues to be put back as the Australian military waits for its international partners in the UN peacekeeping force to reach Darwin.

First it looked like a Saturday morning departure. Now it appears as though the main force will not arrive in East Timor until early next week, Defence Minister John Moore said yesterday.
