ABN Amro Bank has launched an expansion programme as it strives for a larger slice of the consumer market.
The Dutch banking giant yesterday moved its Tsim Sha Tsui branch from a sixth-floor location to street level.
It will also open a Causeway Bay branch before the end of the year.
Michiel de Jong, the bank's chief executive for the mainland, said: '[The] opening is in line with our strategy of relocating existing branches to locations more accessible for our clients.' Mr de Jong said ABN Amro would introduce Internet banking to the region in the first half of next year, and Hong Kong would be used as the pilot market for the scheme.
The bank was satisfied with its portfolio mix and would abstain from taking part in the current mortgage war, although there was ample room for growth in the mortgage lending market, Mr de Jong said.
'Obtaining a little bit of market share with lower margins just isn't worth it.' Mr de Jong said customers would have access to cash through the ABN Amro automatic teller machine network from next week.
