ROGUE trader Nick Leeson has enjoyed a luxury holiday in Hong Kong on a return jaunt to Asia.
The convicted fraudster, who was released from a Singapore jail in July, returned to London on Wednesday night after spending a month in Southeast Asia.
The trip, said to be a holiday, raised questions among bankers and sources close to the collapse of Barings about just what he was up to.
Friends he visited in Hong Kong while based at a Kowloon hotel said he was searching for reasons why his wife had divorced him while he was in Tanah Merah prison.
Sources told the Sunday Morning Post that Mr Leeson had visited the Malaysian tax haven of Labuan Island just before his fraudulent trades were discovered in 1995, leading to the GBP860 million (HK$10.8 billion) collapse of Barings Bank.
Government-controlled newspapers in Singapore said at the time there was speculation Mr Leeson went to Labuan to open an offshore bank account after he fled Singapore.
His trial lawyer denied Leeson held on to any secret profits.
