While the majority of designers are hedging their bets that denim is going to be big news next season, Calvin Klein has taken that most casual of clothing to another level. Next month the American designer will launch his Dirty Denim collection - which, as the name implies, has been specially treated to look worn, frayed and slightly fatigued.
Klein, who previewed the Dirty Denim line during the New York spring 2000 shows which ended on Saturday, said the idea was a collection that would convey a sense of lived-in comfort. As part of his already-established cK Jeans line, the range will be available towards the end of the year, with prices around $700 a pair.
Second scent Christian Lacroix is having another go at the perfume business. The French designer's first fragrance some years ago, C'est La Vie, was a flop, but he is taking another stab at launching his own scent, which will be called simply Christian Lacroix. An international release is scheduled for the next couple of months, and while details remain sketchy, industry insiders are not expecting anything like the cool, fresh and almost imperceptible fragrance that has been a strong trend lately: Lacroix's flamboyance, they believe, will come through.
Roman revival On Monday, watch brand Vacheron Constantin launches its MCMMLXXII - 1972 - wristwatch.
Why 1972? Because that is the year Vacheron Constantin created a revolutionary trapezium-shaped watch. The new model comes in white, yellow or fashionable pink gold, has a stylish charcoal grey face and is water resistant to 30 metres. Models with orange or dark blue alligator-skin straps are expected to be especially popular.
The collection will be showcased at a party at the Loke Yew Hall of the University of Hong Kong. For information, call 2807 1272.
