Dr Win is the order of the night at this evening's Happy Valley meeting. The Ricky Yiu Poon-fie-trained reclassified griffin contests the sixth event and looks a cut above the common-or-garden Class Four performer which he encounters in this mile contest.

Last season the dark grey son of Defensive Play always worked with a fluency and athleticism that marked him down as a potential griffin winner.

He needed his first run over the Valley's 1,000 metres before storming home into third behind the potentially very useful Keen Winner over 1,400 metres at Sha Tin on his only other griffin outing.

The Tony Cruz-trained High Spirits was second that day and he has already come out and won over a mile at the Valley.

Indeed High Spirits emerged from his Valley win about four pounds superior to the third-placed Grand Prize, who looks Dr Win's main rival tonight.

Dr Win's third to Keen Winner last season was the subject of a stewards' inquiry and, with normal luck in running, Dr Win might well have beaten High Spirits home.

On that basis there looks to be a strong argument that Dr Win should have the edge over Grand Prize.
