Ocean-Land Group, a property and investment concern jumping big time into the e-commerce sector, expects its on-line book shop, which kicks off in November, to be the first profit-making bookseller on the Internet.

The company recently refocused on Internet trading and distribution and aims to have property and industrial investing eventually account for less than 25 per cent of total revenue.

Despite Ocean-Land's enthusiasm analysts doubted the company could achieve great success in the short term.

They pointed out United States-based Amazon.com, the biggest on-line bookseller in the world, had yet to make a profit after four years.

Director Chung Ho said he was not worried as Amazon.com revenue was based on advertising, while his was based on book-selling.
