Allan Wu is MTV's new kid on the block, and judging from his fan mail, he's become one of the channel's most popular VJs.

Born in Los Angeles, Allan graduated in biophysics from Berkeley University and was on his way towards a medical career when the acting bug bit him.

'Growing up in the US, I only saw Asian actors in stereotype roles, where women would either be sex vixens or docile and totally submissive and men would be gangsters. I want to change that preconception,' he says.

Although Allan says it's still difficult for Asian-American actors to get mainstream roles that aren't stereotypical, he does see things moving in the right direction.

'People like Jackie Chan and Chow Yun-fat busted their asses getting to where they are today and Hollywood is beginning to see Asian actors on a wider scope and not just as a token. Things are changing and I want to be part of it.' Allan is negotiating movie deals with several local producers and says he can't wait to start his first movie. But for the time being, MTV's resident hunk keeps pumping up the volume for his show, MTV Partyzone, which debuted last September.
