The Jardine group's logistics arm is setting up a joint venture to provide one-stop supply-chain logistics services in the rapidly growing mainland market.

Jardine Logistics, China Communication and Transport Association (CCTA) and China National Transport Machinery Import & Export Co will be shareholders in the joint-venture - Jardine-CCTA Logistics Services - which starts officially in January.

'As with many companies, we've taken this economic downturn as an opportunity to really streamline our operations throughout Asia,' said Vincent Wong, president of Jardine Logistics.

When companies looked hard at improving efficiency and the cost-effectiveness of forwarding and logistics, outsourcing logistics to specialists such as Jardine Logistics often was the best option, he said.

The joint venture, which will trade under the Jardine Logistics brand, will be managed by Jardine Logistics, the majority shareholder in Jardine-CCTA.

The business group was awarded a class A forwarding licence on August 2 by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation, enabling it to engage in land, sea and air-freight forwarding.
