ATV news anchor Kelvin Tang King-fai says journalism is an interesting field as one gets to see different aspects of society.
Tang, who graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, majored in broadcast journalism. 'I could have been a good businessman or marketing director, but I didn't want to,' he said.
Brought up as a Catholic, he wanted to help the underprivileged and change the world. 'If you don't want to change anything, you should stay away from the field because journalists are striving to make the world a better place,' he said.
Tang said to be a good journalist, one must be willing to make sacrifices, work overtime and make a constant effort to improve. 'No pain, no gain,' he said.
Journalists should also be re sponsive to society and enjoy working with people. 'We ask questions on behalf of the community. We have to care about society and dig out the inequality and injustice,' he said.
There have been many unforgettable events in his career. He remembers vividly the Lan Kwai Fong tragedy on the eve of 1993.
