Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho Hung-sun said yesterday he believed the idea of developing a casino-entertainment complex in Hong Kong had not come from Beijing.
He was commenting on reports saying the central Government had initiated the casino plan for the SAR.
Beijing officials were said to be hopeful it would bring triad-related violence in Macau, linked to the enclave's casino business, under control.
Mr Ho said it would be a breach of the 'one country, two systems' concept.
He said law and order in Macau would improve after the handover in December with support from the central Government.
'It's because triad societies are afraid of the Communist Party. You see 'Big Spender' was executed,' said Mr Ho referring to Hong Kong permanent resident Cheung Tze-keung executed on the mainland last year after being convicted of kidnapping two property tycoons.
