Funfairs combining games, food stalls and mini flag-raising ceremonies were held at schools across the SAR yesterday to celebrate 50 years of communism on the mainland. At Pui Kiu Middle School in North Point, a portion of the money raised from its event will be sent to its sister school in Qingyuan City, Guangdong. Ip Cho-yin, vice-principal of the school, said: 'Students have more patriotic awareness since they have more opportunities to see the national flag and more communications between the SAR and the mainland.' Meanwhile, a fleet of 45 vehicles organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers and decorated with National Day motifs will set off for Zhuhai from Sha Tin racecourse this morning. More than 180 education workers and their families will take part in a variety of celebrations en route to the mainland. They will return tomorrow.
