A MAINLAND Chinese woman used a false passport to come to Hongkong to shop for her wedding, Western Court heard yesterday.
Anna Kuo, 19, pleaded guilty to using an unlawfully obtained travel document and was sentenced to six months' jail, suspended for 12 months, by Magistrate Mr Hugh Sinclair.
Defence counsel Mr A. J. Sanguinetti told the court that Kuo's father, a businessman living in the Philippines, gave Kuo the passport, which he obtained in Manila in her name.
Mr Sanguinetti said Kuo first came to Hongkong from Shanghai for shopping in October last year and experienced no difficulties with immigration authorities.
On March 28 she returned to Hongkong, again to shop for her wedding in July, and was granted permission to stay for 14 days. But she was stopped as she tried to leave and has been in custody since April 12.
