JEWISH groups and a top designer have expressed outrage at a T-shirt featuring a Nazi swastika which is being worn as a fashion statement by youths.
The T-shirt, on sale at shops in Update Mall, Kowloon, bears the name of New York designer Helmut Lang, whose company has ordered an investigation into the affair.
An anti-Nazi group, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, has accused the T-shirt makers of 'trying to promote genocide as being hip'.
Polly Wong of J. V. K. store, which commissions and sells the T-shirts, said: 'We know Hitler killed many people, but we sell this only for commercial purposes.' Ms Wong estimated that up to 100 T-shirts, priced at $98, had been sold since the shop opened two months ago.
J. V. K. commissions factories in China and Hong Kong to manufacture them.
The army green or khaki T-shirts carry the swastika and underneath is the wording: 'Helmut Lang - Summercamp #1998'.
