Remember the earthquake in Taiwan two weeks ago? A boy called Tom arrived in Taipei with his parents the night before the disaster. The city was preparing to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Tom watched some fireworks before returning to his hotel. He could not sleep. After having a cup of coffee, the floor shook repeatedly. He quickly went down to the street. He saw crowds of people escaping from buildings. There were old people, children and the disabled. He saw some people helping those in danger to es cape. He should have given them a hand, but his parents would not let him. Then, buildings started to collapse. There were sparks as bright as lightning. As electricity cables were cut, there was a power failure. Very soon, people could not see anything. They were looking for their relatives. Luckily, Tom had his parents nearby. There were also some people trapped in the collapsed buildings. Some people tried to save them, but failed. Telephone lines were also cut, so no-one could call for help. Fortunately, Tom found a mobile phone on the ground. He called the emergency centre. Meanwhile, rescue units arrived. They quickly got into the buildings to look for victims. Tom found himself at the airport. His mother told him that they were ready to depart. He bought a newspaper. The headline said: 'Earthquake hits Taipei'. There were a lot of photos of the dead. Tom eventually returned to Hong Kong. He will always be heartbroken about the disaster. Yili is a student at St Francis Xavier's School
