I fail to comprehend why Margaret Ng is putting pressure on the Hong Kong authorities to investigate the revoking of her entry visa to the mainland. As she is a UK citizen using UK travel documents, the correct diplomatic channel for her complaint is the UK ambassador in Beijing. However, she seems determined to embarrass the Hong Kong authorities on a matter over which they have absolutely no control. As a lawyer she must be well aware that it is extremely rare for foreign nationals to be allowed to hold political posts such as Legislative Councillors in any country. While it is true that Hong Kong's mini constitution does allow for a number of seats in the legislature to be held by foreign nationals, it would be a wise move for Margaret Ng to renounce her UK nationality. By renouncing her UK nationality she would then be using Hong Kong travel documents and the Hong Kong authorities would be in a better position to try and help her. She would also be immune from the accusation, rightly or wrongly, that she is attempting to perpetuate British rule in Hong Kong. P. K. LEE Ap Lei Chau
