I refer to the incident at the Suede concert on September 28, at the Exhibition and Convention Centre. Having been to the Oasis concert at the same venue, I was expecting a large queue, but at least that was well organised and moved smoothly. I did not see the incident in which the escalator glass was broken and some fans were apparently injured, but it would not have happened had the queue been better organised and controlled. During the concert the security guards were quite obviously struggling to control the crowd at the front of the stage and had great difficulty removing those who fainted. I had to leave the event just before the end and had difficulty opening an exit door as it was partially blocked by a barrier. Two of the four escalators were still running up, towards the venue. What would have happened in an emergency if 5,000 people had tried to leave down only two escalators? The whole event looked like an accident waiting to happen. Why didn't the concert organisers hire people who knew what they were doing? SEAN CLARKE Causeway Bay
