More than 5,000 families are to get an immediate offer of public rental housing after the relaxation of criteria barring new migrants from government housing. Housing Authority chairwoman Rosanna Wong disclosed the figures yesterday but guaranteed the interests of more than 118,000 people queuing up for public housing would not be sacrificed. 'Our prime principle is those who have already been waiting for a home should not be affected, they shouldn't be forced to wait longer,' she said. An extra five hectares will be needed every year to accommodate the new families.
