Entrance requirements of the University of Hong Kong include passes in the HKCEE and the A- levels. For the HKCEE, applicants should have Grade E or above in at least seven subjects as follows: Grade E or above in at least six subjects obtained at the same time; Grade E or above in English Language (Syllabus B) or Grade C or above in English Language (Syllabus A); Grade E or above in a language other than English; and Grade E or above in mathematics. The required grades must be obtained in the candidate's first and/or second attempt at the HKCEE. For the A-levels, applicants should have: a Grade D or above in AS Use of English; Grade E or above in AS Chinese Language and Culture; and either Grade E or above in two A-level subjects; or Grade E or above in one A-level subject and two AS subjects other than Use of English and Chinese Language and Culture. Popular programmes at the HKU include architecture, actual science, law and medicine. Only students with outstanding academic performance are accepted.
