A ban on single people qualifying for government housing loans would be lifted in December, Mr Wong said. According to proposals, about 500 places in the Home Starter Loan Scheme would be created for unmarried applicants every year.

Those with monthly incomes below $22,000 and assets worth less than $400,000 would be able to apply for loans of $300,000.
The move could cost $150 million a year and the Government will go to the Finance Committee for funding next month.
The policy reverse follows complaints by the Equal Opportunity Commission that it might breach discrimination laws.
