CHILDREN playing with a popular exploding chemical toy called the ''Bomb Bag'' could be blinded or temporarily deafened, the Consumer Council warned yesterday.
Consumer Council spokesman, Anthony Yuen said the ''Bomb Bag'' was still available in some Hongkong shops even though the supplier had agreed to recall the product after receiving complaints.
The bag once inflated should explode within five seconds but the council said it took more than a minute for the chemicals in the toy to ignite.
This delay could entice children to move too close to the toy and risk serious injury, it said.
The council also warned there were insufficient warnings about the toy and that most Hongkong children would not understand the English instructions on the packet.
After receiving complaints the Customs and Excise Department was told to ban the importation of the Taiwanese product, while the supplier promised to recall it.
