Xircom, a maker of mobile-access products for personal computers, expects the mainland to be its second-largest regional market after Australia by the end of next year.

Gerald Makos, Asia-Pacific marketing director for the US-based firm, said yesterday the mainland was now the fourth to fifth-largest market for the Nasdaq-listed company, which reported US$276 million in sales up to September 30, last year.

The forecast was based on the 'explosive' growth of the mainland notebook market, and the company's move into desk-top accessories after its US$23 million acquisition of US-based Entrega Technologies last month.
