A factory worker told police he helped his wife dump the body of a four-year-old girl for fear she would be sent to jail, a court heard yesterday.
Wong Kin-kwong, 37, appeared in the Court of First Instance two days after his wife, child minder Wong Siu-wai, 34, was convicted of the manslaughter of Lee Wing-sze, who was in her care.
The factory worker has pleaded guilty to assisting an offender and preventing lawful burial.
Defence counsel Corinne Remedios said yesterday: 'My client has nothing to do with the killing . . . The deceased preferred my client to [Wong Siu-wai].' The child minder had denied murdering Wing-sze, whose body showed signs of physical abuse, claiming it was the work of her husband.
Prosecutors did not charge the factory worker with the death.
The husband told police after his arrest that he had helped his wife because he feared she would be found out and sent to jail.
