A hole in the Sha Tin track, revealed during a routine check yesterday, has forced the Jockey Club to shorten the distance of tomorrow's feature event. The Wayfoong Centenary Bowl will now be run over 1,739 metres rather than the declared 1,800 metres. The decision was taken late yesterday after hurried consultations, but there were few details available about the extent of the damage to the track and why it could not be rectified in the 48 hours available. Information officer Leo Kwan said: 'There is a hole in the track and it was discovered earlier today. 'The course was being checked as normal when it was found. 'The management were informed of the situation and after discussions within the racing management, it was decided to shorten the distance of the 1,800-metre race on Wednesday night.' The Wayfoong Centenary Bowl is the only race over the 1,800-metre trip, so nothing else on the night's card is affected. The damage is at the start of the 1,800-metre chute. Clerk of the course John Ridley is in America with Pako Leung, who is in charge of track operations. Meanwhile, British champion jockey Kieren Fallon has rushed back to England in search of the one victory that will give him his third successive double century of winners on British tracks. Fallon was returning from Toronto where he partnered the Mark Johnston-trained Fruits Of Love to second place in the Canadian International at Woodbine on Sunday. He is now expected to arrive in Hong Kong in a week's time, on schedule for his winter stint here. 'I was concerned that I might have to put back my trip to Hong Kong by a week or so to get the 200,' said Fallon. 'It [200 winners] has been my goal for some time and now I should be able to make it easily.' Fallon won the Cesarewitch on Top Cees at Newmarket on Saturday to chalk up winner 199 and one more will see him equal the immortal Sir Gordon Richards' 1952 hat-trick of double centuries. Fallon has coasted to another British title but is 100 per cent committed to a big winter stint in Hong Kong. 'I could not have had a more fantastic time than last season where everything just came right for me. 'It is going to be harder this time around, but as long as I can get the same sort of support, I think it is possible,' added Fallon. DT & TT guide - Pages 26-27
