World Series Racing Championship leader Daylami tops the list of entries for December's $10 million Group One Hong Kong Cup with four of the first five in the table down to contest the Sha Tin showdown. Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said last night: 'We have put him down for Hong Kong largely in case anything might go wrong before he goes to the Breeders' Cup which is his main aim. 'But we want to have Hong Kong as a definite back-up.' The temporary ban on American imports - if it is not lifted - will definitely hit the final leg of the World Series as America's turf champion, Yagli, last year's Breeders' Cup Turf winner, Buck's Boy, and former Hong Kong International Cup winner, Val's Prince, are all entered. On current ratings it is highly likely that both Yagli and Buck's Boy would be eligible. Canadian International winner Thornfield, who is joint second in the WSRC table, is entered along with the Mark Johnston-trained Fruits Of Love and Dazzling Park from Ireland. The Jim Bolger-trained Dazzling Park finished second to Daylami, albeit thrashed by nine lengths, in the Irish Champion Stakes but is on target for Hong Kong where he will be ridden by Kevin Manning, who rode here three years ago. Recent Epsom Handicap winner Allez Suez, prepared by Bart Cummings, and the Kenny Man-trained Northern Drake are most likely to fly the flag for Australia in the Cup. Northern Drake, current second favourite for tomorrow's coveted Cox Plate, has been entered for both the Cup and the Vase. A total of 441 entries were received this year with 126 of them for the Hong Kong Cup. There are 107 for the 2,400-metre Vase and 85 for the inaugural Hong Kong Sprint which is the richest five-furlong dash in the world. Leading the British challenge for the dash will be the David Nicholls-trained Rudi's Pet, winner of the King George Stakes at Goodwood, and Mitcham, winner of the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot as well as Deep Space, who scrambled home by a short-head in the Wokingham Handicap. The French could be represented by Diableneyev, trained by Criquette Head, and Sainte Marine, runner-up in the Nunthorpe Stakes, who is one of the fastest horses on the Continent. Old reliables Indigenous, with a point from his King George VI efforts at Ascot in July, and Johan Cruyff head the home team for the Cup while Ivan Allan has also entered Housemaster and rising star Trillion Win. The appeal lodged by South African ace Felix Coetzee against his four-day ban for careless riding on Willie Way on October 13 was dismissed yesterday and the deposit forfeited.
