Attendant settles lawsuit

A flight attendant who launched a landmark sex discrimination lawsuit against Cathay Pacific yesterday settled out of court.

The airline agreed to compensate Anson Li Yuet-ngor, 45, for loss of earnings amounting to about $450,000 plus costs as part of the settlement deal.

Ms Li also won her former job back as a chief purser, with the now-changed title of inflight service manager and recruitment co-ordinator, plus 35 days' annual leave.

The closed-door deal was struck yesterday before Judge Barnabas Fung Wah in the District Court.

Outside court, Ms Li who returned to Cathay this month, said she was very happy and satisfied with the settlement.

She was forced to quit on September 14 last year under a mandatary retirement policy for female staff her age. She remained unemployed until July this year, when she found a part-time job as a teacher.
