A boy of 11 abducted from an amusement arcade has been rescued by police. The victim, identified in the Legal Daily as surnamed Su, was snatched in Xiamen, Fujian province, this month by a man, You Runian, and a 14-year-old boy who came up with the idea. They lured their victim to a hotel by offering to show him a video, then called the Su family demanding between 20,000 (HK$18,800) and 60,000 yuan for the boy's return. After they said the money should be deposited into an account at the Agriculture Bank, police staked out various branches. You was arrested when he went to the bank and used the account number they had quoted. Officers then went to the hotel and found the boy. The paper said the 14-year-old boy devised the plan when he and You decided that selling VCDs was not lucrative enough. Meanwhile, a Beijing court jailed Wang Zhengyu and Gao Jun for 13 and 12 years respectively after they kidnapped the adult son of a village cadre. The pair demanded 800,000 yuan from the cadre, who had earlier refused to lend Wang 200,000 yuan to buy a car, the Beijing Morning Post said. The son was released unharmed.
