PROUD father Goichi Motomura plans a special present for his new-born son - the CMG Open title. The Japanese number one has been telephoning home every day to find out how wife Mika and their 11-day-old son are progressing. And after winning through to today's CMG Open final at Victoria Park, he hopes to take the trophy back to his family. 'My wife usually travels with me but she has been staying in Fukuoka since she began expecting our baby,' said Motomura, ranked 126th in the world. 'I've been in a Challenger final five times but never won, so it would be a great present for my son if I could win my first title here.' Motomura, 25, overcame American Mike Bryan 6-1, 6-4 in the semi-finals to set up a clash with Frenchman Stephane Huet. It was the second encounter between Motomura and Bryan in a month following some 'unfinished business' at the Shanghai Open. On that occasion rain halted play when they were tied at one set each and Motomura forfeited the match as he wanted to be present at his son's birth. Huet, who beat Sweden's Fredrik Jonsson 6-0, 6-3, edged Motomura in a three-set qualifying match for this year's Australian Open. But Motomura, who has pulled off upsets against fifth seed Paul Goldstein and third seed John van Lottum on his way to the final, said he was confident. 'I am ranked higher and if I play as well as I have in the past few days I think I should win,' he said. Huet, who captured his first challenger title in Budapest last month, said he had not played to his usual standard so far. 'I must concentrate on my own game more because I'm not playing well. I'll try to be more relaxed,' he said. Aries Chow
