US group strengthens Asian teams

Salomon Smith Barney announced several new hires yesterday, bringing to 44 the number of research analysts in the region.

In Hong Kong, Michael Siu was hired from Schroder Investment Management as a financial institutions analyst.

Leslie Chow will head regional coverage of chemicals. Mr Chow is moving to Hong Kong from Salomon's London offices, where he covered European chemical companies.

In Taiwan, John Caparusso has been hired away from Indosuez WI Carr - where he was research head - to take charge of financial services and telecommunications research.

In Singapore, the United States investment bank is taking on Muhyiddin Razack from ABN Amro Asia as vice-president and property analyst.

ING Barings also recently announced its regional research team had taken on a new member, with the appointment of Adam Le Mesurier as senior regional economist for Southeast Asia.
