Greenpeace activists place stickers on toys at the Tsim Sha Tsui branch of Toys 'R' Us yesterday, warning of the potential dangers that lurk in soft PVC playthings for babies. The activists were protesting against what they said was the inaction of the chain, as well as the Government, over vinyl teething toys for babies. The stickers carried the words: 'I am a health hazard' in Chinese and 'No PVC toys' in English. Campaigner Luisa Tam Han-may said the toys contained polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a potentially hazardous substance. Toys 'R' Us had promised in November last year a worldwide recall of products containing phthalates, which have been found to be carcinogenic and to disrupt normal hormone function.
