I refer to the letter from David Ensor headlined, 'Dreadful bus drivers should be re-educated', which appeared in the South China Morning Post, on October 4.
Bus services have come in for a lot of public criticism of late and I am sure this puts pressure on the bus companies to do better and improve the performance levels of their drivers.
However, it must be understood that the drivers themselves often feel they are under pressure.
Drivers have to stick to timetables and arrive at bus stops on time.
If they are late, they might lose their jobs. I think this causes some bus captains to drive too fast.
However, I believe that there have been improvements in bus services.
Take KMB, for example, which has installed LED display boards informing passengers of the next stop. I have also noticed that its drivers are polite to passengers, although sometimes they also still go too fast and brake suddenly.
