THE Dow Chemical Company of the United States has announced the appointment of Mr Denis Wilcock as president of Dow Chemical Pacific Ltd. Mr Wilcock will be based in Hongkong and will have responsibility for Dow's operations in the Asia Pacific. He will also be a member of the management board of the Dow Chemical Company. Mr Wilcock joined Dow in Holland in 1965 and, since then, has held a number of management positions in various functions, including research and development and marketing, both in Europe and the US. He was named vice-president of Dow Europe in 1986 and became executive vice-president the following year. In 1990, Mr Wilcock was appointed president of Dow Canada. GOLD Peak Industries (Holdings) Ltd has announced the appointment of Mr Robert Gerard asa non-executive director of the company. Mr Gerard is the chairman and managing director of Gerard Industries Pty Ltd, Australia's largest manufacturer of electrical accessories with an extensive distribution network in both Australia and international markets. Educated at Prince Alfred College, Adelaide University and the Institute of Technology of South Australia, Mr Gerard has more than 30 years' experience in electrical accessories manufacturing and marketing. THE Chase Manhattan Bank recently announced the appointment of Mr Regis Dale to the position chief representative for the Shanghai office, which will be opened later this month. Mr Dale will be responsible for originating corporate finance deals and managing the bank's overall business in the Shanghai area. Mr Dale has extensive work experience with Asian clients. Prior to joining Chase in 1986, he worked in Taiwan with another American bank in its marketing and credit department. During his time with Chase, Mr Dale has worked in the Asia-Pacific group based in New York, marketing financial products to Japanese and other Asian financial institutions. Mr Dale was educated in the US and England. He has attained a masters degree in international finance from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. MR George Raffini and Mr Marcus Thompson have been appointed directors of Wardley Direct Investment Management Ltd (WDIM), a subsidiary of HSBC Asset Management Ltd. WDIM acts as investment manager and adviser of two Southeast Asia direct investment funds. ROYCE HR Management Consultants has appointment Mr Sidney Yuen as managing director. Prior to his appointment, Mr Yuen was director of quality and customer services and regional training manager with American Express. AMERICAN Express Bank has announced two senior appointments. Mr Peter Amandini has been appointed senior director and head of the investment services department responsible for the planning, development and execution of the bank's investment strategy. Mr Amandini was formerly with Salomon Brothers Hongkong and Citibank in London. Mr Lloyd D'Souza has been promoted from director, credit, New Delhi, to senior director and chief credit officer in Hongkong. He will head up the Hongkong credit team and be in charge of all credit-related relationships. CANADIAN Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), based in Hongkong, has announced the appointment of Mr Douglas Paterson as general manager, credit risk management.In his new role, Mr Paterson will manage CIBC group's credit affairs throughout Asia. He joined CIBC in 1976. Prior to coming to Hongkong, he served as deputy manager for CIBC's Corporate Banking Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Mr Paterson is a fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers, a director for both CIBC Asia and Canadian Eastern Finance Ltd, as well as a member of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Overseas Bankers' Club. INSURANCE Company of North America (INA), a CIGNA company, has appointed Mr Patrick Kuo as underwriting manager for its marine operation. Mr Mr Kuo will be responsible for the overall management of the INA marine insurance operations. Mr Charles Yau has been promoted to accounting manager at INA. Mr Yau will be responsible for the co-ordination of the internal accounting function of INA and for salary administration for the Hongkong and Macau operations of INA. Ms Cecilia So has been promoted to sales development manager in the company's special products division. Ms So will head the tele-marketing, corporate sales and internal marketing operations. THOMAS International has appointed Ms Mary Jane Bickersteth as a senior consultant and Ms Marianne Tulleners as consultant. Ms Bickersteth has been with Thomas International almost three years, previously working in Zimbabwe. CLYDE & Co, the international commercial law firm with offices in Hongkong and Singapore, has announced that Mr Mike Roderick has been made a partner in the firm. Mr Roderick has substantial experience in both non-marine and marine insurance litigation and arbitration gained while working for the firm in London and, more recently, in Hongkong.
