Guangdong police have conducted a huge crackdown on Falun Gong literature over a two-month period and arrested 68 people for producing books and videos about the sect.
Xinhua said Guangdong authorities had confiscated 43,000 books and audio-visual products related to the banned Falun Gong in August and September. Those involved in the production and sales of the illegal publications had been arrested.
The campaign was aimed at Falun Gong literature and 'illegal political publications', the agency said.
During the crackdown, 8,522 shops had been raided, of which 826 were fined for selling illegal publications and audio-visual products. Eighteen warehouses stocking the 'illegal publications' had also been closed.
In Guangzhou and Dongguang cities, police raided 16 printers of Falun Gong publications and confiscated 3.64 million books, 790,000 posters of sect founder Li Hongzhi and 5,000 notebooks.
Guangzhou railway authorities also searched passenger luggage 'to prevent the transportation of illegal publications'.
