Tiffany launches square-on
It's going to be a busy week for jewellery aficionados, judging by the various events taking place around town over the next few days.
Establishment New York jeweller Tiffany launches its latest diamond ring, Lucida, as of this week, after a highly successful unveiling in New York in September, where supermodel Christy Turlington paraded the ring in front of hundreds of well-heeled guests.
Lucida is trademarked by Tiffany, which means copying it - as no doubt many other jewellers will try to do - is illegal. Its originality is based on the architecturally inspired square shape of the ring, which features a high crown and wide corners, holding a perfect diamond.
Italian jeweller Fulvio Maria Scavia, based in Milan, is holding an exhibition of his exclusive pieces at the Tamar Suite of Mandarin Oriental Hotel, until Wednesday. Scavia is a sometime visitor to Hong Kong, and his exhibitions here always fare well. Highlights this week will be his award-winning designs created for the millennium. And for something completely different: two European designers based in Bali are exhibiting a line of handmade pieces set with semi-precious stones, this Friday and Saturday in suite 2200 of the Furama Hotel. The event is organised by Nicole Moja and her company Jewel Craft.
American Sohana Bohlool and Italian Simona Casellini have lived in Bali for more than a decade, and between them specialise in unusual silver or gold pieces which feature traditional jewellery-making techniques such as hand-hammering and carving. Prices are reasonable, starting at $500 for the silver items and going up to $8,000 for the more elaborate gold and semi-precious baubles.
