WHEN jockeys are summoned to the inquiry room, trepidation stalks every stride.
But likable Jimmy K. H. Ting, until very recently one of our best apprentices, had no reason to fear yesterday when presenting himself in the inquiry room.
Ting was not in trouble, the powers that be were merely congratulating the talented rider for his efforts in flying the Hongkong flag in Macau on Saturday, and losing his claim into the bargain.
He wasted no time in proving that he will hold his own minus an allowance with a perfect ride on Iron Horse in the eighth event.
''I am very happy. It has been a very good two days for me and many people have been kind and congratulated me,'' said Ting, who is also lined up for a riding stint in Ireland in mid-summer.
Director of Racing Philip Johnston said yesterday: ''He did extremely well in Macau particularly in the big race and the one that followed.'' Ting had 10 rides in Macau and it wasn't just the fact that he's clearly a useful lad that saw the book filled up.
