Hong Kong's first gold came like a bolt from the blue on the opening day of the World Wushu Championships at the Hong Kong Coliseum yesterday.

Teenager To Yu-hong struck gold in the men's changquan in only his second major international event.

Hong Kong's first medal, however, came from former world champion Li Fai. She captured a silver in taijiquan, making her international debut in the discipline.

The SAR bagged two more silvers in the afternoon session through Cheung Man-keung in the men's taijiquan and Tsang Sze-man in the women's nan-cudgel.

To, 18, registered 9.38 points, 0.03 more than South Korea's Park Chan-dae and 0.05 better than Japan's Sakuma Ryouji.

The home-bred wushu exponent said he did not expect to win gold.

'I only set a target of finishing in the top six.
