CHAMPION River Verdon will not be racing in England this summer due to a training setback. The Gold Cup and Champions and Chater Cup winner has developed a foot abscess which means that he will miss vital work and not be fit enough to race to his full ability come his July engagements. An inoculation had already forced him out of Royal Ascot. Trainer David Hill revealed yesterday: ''He has to stay here to have a bit of work done on his feet due to the abscess. ''Because of the abscess the horse isn't quite right in himself and will not now be going to England.'' The injury is niggling rather than serious and should be cleared up in a month at the most. It will not affect River Verdon's form in the future.
