HONG Kong's Adam Poynton and James Cheng put themselves in gold medal contention at the Manulife Funds Direct International Bowls Classic Pairs after reaching the semi-finals at the Kowloon Bowling Green Club yesterday.
Poynton and Cheng have been bowling superbly all week and they booked their semi-final berth after winning both their matches in style.
Kowloon Cricket Club's Mike Dowie and Jacky Wong also reached the semi-finals on a proud day for Hong Kong and they, too, are on course for a gold medal.
Poynton and Cheng first defeated Craigengower Cricket Club's Fung Kee-tong and Willie Lai 25-18 to qualify for the knockout phases.
But it was their 21-12 victory against Scotland's Alastair White and Alex Marshall that stood out.
Hong Kong finished only fourth in Section One, while Scotland were winners of Section Two.
