A deadlocked jury in a kidnap trial was discharged yesterday after deliberating for five hours. Ngan Tse-shun, 30, pleaded not guilty in the Court of First Instance to abducting a 10-year-old boy, the son of a listed-company chairman, last November for $20 million ransom. The jurors were unable to reach a unanimous or suitably large majority verdict and the foreman told Deputy Judge Michael McMahon that extra time would not narrow the difference. The judge adjourned the matter to this morning.
