CTII Worldwide, a joint-venture logistics company, will establish its Asian logistics hub in Sun Hung Kai Properties' (SHKP) Air Freight Forwarding Centre (AFFC) at Hong Kong International Airport.

 CTII, a joint venture between China Travel Service (Cargo) Hong Kong (CTS-Cargo) and transport veteran Peter K.C. Yu, will use AFFC's sophisticated logistics centre to serve the United States, Europe and other destinations, besides serving as the gateway to the mainland.

 CTS-Cargo, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed China Travel International Investment Hong Kong, which specialises in travel, leisure and the entertainment industry as well as hospitality, transport and investment, has a well-connected network in the mainland.

 An agreement is to be signed soon by China Travel International Investment Hong Kong chairman Zhu Yuening and SHKP deputy chairman Raymond Kwok Ping-luen to seal the deal.

 Mr Zhu said the agreement was a big step forward for both CTII and AFFC, and marked a new chapter in the development of Hong Kong as a regional logistics centre.

 'Although this is a new joint venture, CTS-Cargo has been involved in the forwarding business for 70 years,' said CTII chief executive Peter Yu.

 Mr Yu, who has been in forwarding for 30 years, is backed by an energetic and experienced team, which includes chief operation officer Chu Tak-ming, air-freight manager Tony Tse, ocean-freight manager Andrew Tang and sales manager Thomas Wong.

 CTII plans to take up to 200,000 square feet of space at AFFC under its first-phase plan.

 'We will take up more space as our business expands,' Mr Yu said.

 AFFC managing director Paul Tsim Tak-po said: 'AFFC's three-storey centre, operated by AFFC's subsidiary Airport Cargo Logistics Services (ACLS), is a first-class facility for customised logistics services. Our customers have the advantage of proximity to the airport's two air-cargo terminals, giving them a competitive advantage over their competitors operating from off-airport sites.'  The centre, which operates around the clock, has a total lettable floor area of 1.3 million sq ft for cargo storage and a nine-storey office building.

 Mr Yu said CTII hoped to expand its working relationship with Sun Hung Kai in Hong Kong and the mainland.

 Mr Tsim said that as Hong Kong International Airport was the world's foremost airport in terms of cargo handled, ACLS was faced with a special challenge to monitor the high growth of international air cargo and make every effort to achieve a more customer-oriented range of services.



Company's airport hub to act as gateway to the mainland
