For men the secret of a happy marriage is emotional support and an active sex life - while women would just like their husbands to take more interest in them, a survey has found.
Men are more able to get what they want than women, the survey by RTHK and the Hong Kong Catholic Marriage Advisory Council shows.
About 87 per cent of husbands in the survey of 1,022 respondents were happy with their marriages, compared with 78 per cent of wives.
Women said they just wanted husbands to take a greater interest in their opinions and a more active role in their social lives.
Sheron Li Yuet-yi, marriage counsellor at the advisory council, said: 'Sex plays an essential role in building up a successful marriage.
'We have seen some newlyweds who do not have any idea how to do it and we have some middle-aged couples who are either too lazy or too tired.' Cheung Siu-kau, principal lecturer at City University said the intimacy level among retired couples and low-income groups was poor.
