Sand sculptures welcome 2000

Hundreds of sculptors and spectators showed up at the Hong Kong Sand Sculpture Competition-cum- Beach Carnival at Shek O Main Beach. The contest was open to teams of two to six members.

With the theme 'Towards the Millennium Year', it was divided into six categories: families, secondary schools, primary schools, industrial/commercial organisations, open and improvisation. The contest attracted 120 teams this year.

The four winners in each category were awarded trophies and the entry with the highest score won the Sand Sculpture Grand Prize.

The event also featured games and drama performances.

Results of three categories Primary schools First: 'Hong Kong Does Not Fear the Bugs' by Sure Win; Second: 'Never Give Up' by Big Show Off; Third: 'Awakening Phoenix' by Triumphant; Fourth: 'Save the Little Dolphin' by Beautiful Sky.

Secondary schools First: 'Beyond the Millennium Dragon' by Cognito College (Team A); Second: 'Let's Protect Nature' by Kiangsu-Chekiang College; Third: 'Co-Existence' by Cognito College (Team B); Fourth: 'Walk on Thin Ice' by Carmel Alison Lam Foundation Secondary School.

Open category - First: 'The Pearl of Y2K' by Design By . . .; Second: 'Celebrate the Millennium with Happiness' by Storm; Third: 'The Bugs' by A Group Of People; Fourth: 'Behind the Fairy Tale' by Diocesan Boys' School.
