The London, a 3,177-teu (20-ft equivalent unit) ship owned by China Shipping Group, is one of the largest container vessels to call at Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT). 'We are sure that the arrival of the London underscores the increasing trend of ever-larger vessels as JICT's cargo volumes and the number of direct-services increases,' JICT president Simon Moore said. The carrier, which operates a direct weekly service to North Europe, has reported cargo volumes to be rising rapidly. Exporters from Surabaya and Semarang have benefited from this service by feedering their cargo to JICT. The port, which has a draught of 14 metres, is equipped to handle post-Panamax vessels. It is near to completing development plans for expansion.
