Students combined their theatrical and linguistic skills at the annual French drama competition staged by the Joint School French Club. The contest took place at Diocesan Boys' School, with La Salle College, Good Hope School, Delia Memorial School and Marymount Secondary School also taking part. Diocesan Boys' School started the competition with the murder mystery Quand il y a Un Meutre, Le Prochian Suivra (When There Is A Death, Another Follows), which was well received by the audience and won the Award of the Public. La Salle College came next with La chevre de M. Fermier (Mr Fermier's Goat), which captured two awards - Best Play and Best Actor (Thomas Zhang as the goat). The Award for Best Supporting Role went to Delia Memorial School. Their play was about a girl who believed everything she read. It ended with an ominous twist that left the room cheering. The play titled Le Prince Cendri was performed by Good Hope School, which won the Award for Best Directing. The play was a modern and creative version of Cinderella. They would also have won the award for best costumes if there had been such an award. Marymount's production of Maman a Toujours Raison (Mum Is Always Right) was also welcomed with glee. It touched on the conflict between a daughter who wanted independence and her mother. In between performances, students from Diocesan Boys' School recited both peculiar and interesting poems. There was an unexpectedly large audience and the entire competition was a satisfying success. Article submitted by the Joint School French Club
