The team of Form Two students from Kwun Tong Government School flew to Tennessee in May to take part in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals after winning the regional competition in Hong Kong.

'Although they did not win [the finals], taking part in the event helped to boost their confidence and broaden their horizons,' principal Lam Sui- hing said.

'What is more important is that they have learned how to turn stress and challenges into motivation to develop their potential.' With an emphasis on whole- person education, the school encourages students to take part in extra-curricular activities to get more exposure to life beyond the classroom and to develop a broader outlook on life.

Last academic year, students took part in exchange programmes and visited the mainland. Activities included a study trip along the Silk Road, a visit to Beijing and Inner Mongolia, a trip to Xian and a visit to Shanghai.

The school also celebrated the 80th anniversary of the May 4th Movement with more than 200 visiting students and teachers from Guangzhou, Yunnan and Shenzhen.

The school's Chinese instrument group has obtained a grant from the Quality Education Fund to form an orchestra, organise training classes and invite renowned musicians to give seminars and demonstrations.
