Defeat in Stubbs Road has not deterred Selina Chow from venturing into direct elections again.
'We definitely have to analyse what the problems were,' the lawmaker for the retail constituency said of her defeat at the hands of broadcaster Ronald Fung.
She dismissed suggestions that she had not taken Mr Fung seriously.
Party chairman James Tien said: 'Had she been taking her rival lightly, she would not have been so assiduous in her campaigning.' Although Mr Fung is a former Liberal Party supporter, he stood as an independent.
However, there have been suggestions that Mr Fung is close to the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong, which explained his strong showing.
Mrs Chow said: 'I did say right from the beginning that the problem I faced was apathy on the part of those who might support me. It was up to our canvassing team to get them to the polling stations.
