The Young Post /Oxford University Press Essay Writing Competition received a very good response. There were hundreds of interesting entries in both the junior and senior categories.
The junior section was for Form One to Four students, while the senior section was for students from Form Five to Seven.
In the junior category, students were asked to write about their summer experience. Most of the participants wrote about their camping trip or travel abroad.
Yvonne Lee of Diocesan Girls' School won first prize for her es say on a trip to New Zealand. Although the country is famous for its beautiful scenery, she said it was the hospitality of the people which won her over. In New Zealand, they treat visitors like VIPs (very important persons), second former Yvonne wrote in her essay.
New Zealanders might live very far away from all of us, but they are a people full of warmth and humanity.
In the senior category, students were asked to write about the new millennium. The essay required them to imagine the outlook of Hong Kong in the next 50 years.
