An Apple Daily reporter and two police communications officers appeared in court yesterday on corruption charges involving the alleged leaking of confidential police documents.
Lau Kong-kwun, 47, was charged at Eastern Court with two counts of conspiracy to offer advantages to senior communications officer Yeung Kai-hung, 46, and Tsang Ping-lam, 51, a communications officer.
Each faced one count of accepting advantages while being public servants. No pleas were taken.
Lau allegedly conspired with people unknown to offer Yeung and Tsang advantages worth $8,000 and $4,000 a month respectively between 1997 and Monday.
The payments were allegedly rewards for providing information concerning police investigations. The communications officers take and record 999 calls.
Lau, Yeung and Tsang were released on bail of $50,000, $20,000 and $10,000 respectively.
