Smooth run for simulated system failure, off-site cargo-handling
Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals (Hactl) has completed the final element of its year-2000 (Y2K) integrated drills after testing its off-site cargo-handling procedures.
Three passenger flights from Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines and Air China took part in Tuesday's exercise. It included a simulated failure of the box storage system and handling of bulk cargo in an off-site area.
More than 30 representatives from airlines, freight forwarders and business partners took part, said Johnnie Wong, Hactl's general manager of service delivery.
Temporary facilities, including the cargo-handling area, security checkpoints, customs facilities and a remote truck park, were set up to carry out the test.
Airline documentation and customs clearance were conducted manually during the exercise which tested procedures and physical cargo-handling methods.
Mr Wong said the company would continue to monitor its preparations for the roll-over into the next century and would co-operate with external parties.
