Orient Overseas Container Line has held a double christening ceremony for two post-Panamax container vessels - OOCL Shanghai and OOCL New York. The vessels were ordered under a long-term time charter agreement with the German-based company, Nordcapital. The two containers, which have a 5,500-teu (20 ft equivalent unit) capacity each, were constructed at the Koje shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries in Pusan, South Korea. The vessels, which each have a service speed of 25 knots, were classed with Germanischer Lloyd. Michaela Rickmers, the wife of Erck Rickmers who is chairman of Nordcapital, christened the OOCL New York. The OOCL Shanghai was christened by Harriet Tung, wife of Tung Chee-chen, chairman and chief executive of Orient Overseas (International), the parent company of OOCL.
